What is OSHC?
All international students on an Australian student visa must maintain valid Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). This guide explains your OSHC requirements and how to manage your coverage while studying at Nova Vocational College.
OSHC is mandatory health insurance for international students, covering medical and hospital care in Australia. It’s a condition of your student visa and must be paid before arriving.
- Visa Length Cover (VLC): Since July 2010, OSHC must cover the entire duration of your student visa, as required by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
- Provider: Nova partners with NIB for OSHC. Check rates at nib.com.au/overseas-students.

Confirmation Letter
Use the reference number from your Nova Vocational College OSHC confirmation letter.

Verify Details
Log in to nib.com.au/login to verify your details and activate your policy.

Receive Card
Your NIB membership card will be issued after verification. Carry it for medical visits.

Stay Prepared
Keep a digital copy of your membership card on your phone for easy access.
Activating Your OSHC
If your OSHC is expiring or has expired, renew it immediately to comply with visa conditions:
Check Status:Â Log in to your NIB account to view your policy end date.
Renew Early:Â Apply for renewal at least 2 weeks before expiry to avoid gaps in coverage.

OSHC covers essential medical services, but there may be out-of-pocket costs.Â
Covered Services
Doctor visits, hospital care, ambulance services, and some prescription medications.
Exclusions
Dental, optical, and physiotherapy may not be covered. Check with NIB for details.
Claims
Present NIB card at clinics and submit claims via nib.com.au/login or by clicking the icon above.
Urgent Care
For non-emergency medical care, visit a general practitioner (GP) to minimize costs.
